Basecoat the following areas with the following colors-
Coat: 924 Teal, Fur & beard: 908 Tawny Beige, Face: 909 Gentle Flesh, Collar & Vest: 901 Bone, Gloves: 944 Barn Red, Sky and water Area of Scene: 925 Medium Blue, Light House & Sail: 900 White, Rocks & boat: 905 Rich Brown, Houses: 903 Smoke, Roofs: 902 Black, light quilt squares: 901 Bone, dark quilt squares: 922 Navy.
Antique the entire piece with 718 Amber. Wipe the product back with 763 Antique Media and a soft paper towel.
To dry brush each area, use a stiff round drybrush of appropriate size. It may be necessary to touch up surrounding basecoat areas after dry brushing each area. When an area requires high lighting after dry brushing, typically a very small amount of 900 White will be applied to the end of the previously used dry brush. This White is worked into the brush onto a paper towel before lightly dry brushing the area.
Dry brush the coat with 918 Forest Green and then high light the coat using the same brush tipped very lightly in 900 White. Drybrush the fur 908 Tawny Beige and then high light the area using the same brush tipped very lightly in 900 White. Drybrush the beard 900 White. Dry brush the face 909 Gentle Flesh and highlight the cheeks using the same brush tipped lightly in 913 Blush. Drybrush the color, vest and light quilt squares with 901 Bone. High light these areas using the same brush tipped very lightly in 900 White. Dry brush the gloves with 944 Barn Red and high light the gloves using the same brush tipped very lightly in 900 White. Dry brush the dark quilt squares with 922 Navy and highlight these squares using the same brush tipped lightly in 900 White.
To paint the scene, use an Intense Translucent filbert
brush loaded very lightly with color. Apply 711
Sapphire to the top of the sky and blend the color down to the bottom of the
sky. Apply 713 Primrose to the bottom of the sky and blend the color up to the
top of the sky. Use a clean Intense Translucent brush to blend this color until
is it a smooth transition from dark blue to light purple with a band of lighter
blue in the middle. If desired stipple some distant clouds into the night sky by
using a small drybrush tipped very lightly with 700 White and
pouncing the clouds into the sky. Apply 714 Teal to the water and pat the teal
back to the desired translucency using a clean brush. Use a moistened q-tip
and/or a clean soft paper towel to wipe off all of the color from the light
house, boat, houses, moon and rock. When the Intense Translucent colors are
applied as desired, in a well ventilated area, spray the scene with 761 Perfect
Matte Spray. Dry brush the moon with 904 Light Grey, highlight the moon using
the same brush tipped in 900 White. Drybrush the light house and sails with 900
White, the houses and house roofs with 903 Smoke, the rocks and boat with 906
Cocoa Brown. Paint the light house roof and band on the light house 910 Scarlet
Red. Paint the lit area of the light house 930 Sun Ray. Paint rays of color
coming from the light with 930 Sun Ray and 900 White. Paint the upper band and
all of the rails on the top of the light house and the lines on the sail 902
Black. Apply 900 White to random areas of the scene as snow and on selected
areas of the santa. Paint small short horizontal lines on the water to resemble
light reflection off of the waves.
Use a detail brush to help define the dark areas of the quilt with 922 Navy and the light areas of the quilt 901 Bone. See the picture for placement.
Paint the anchor 972 Silver and the rope and coat buttons 971 Gold. Paint the eyes 900 White, the iris 925 Medium Blue and the lashes and lines 902 Black. Paint a line on the bottom of the vest and collar 922 Navy.
Spray the scene area with hair spray and sprinkle 977 Ultra Glitz into the wet hair spray.
