750 Bisque Primer, 718 Amber, 763 Antique Media, 924 Teal, 925 Medium Blue, 705 Ruby, 710 Sunshine, 701 Black, 706 Tangerine, 902 Black, 761 Perfect Matte Spray, Intense Translucent Brush Kit, small detail brushes, soft basecoat brush.
Basecoat entire slab 750 Bisque Primer. Make sure to cover the piece completely and smoothly. Several smooth coats are recommended. Dillute 924 Teal and 925 Medium Blue with water (1:5) independently and float these colors on to the slab. Angle the slab with the two koi section up and let the colors run down at and angle from that direction. Add water and/or color to the slab until you acheive the desired faint "water-color" effect of running water. The color will be "leggy" and streaky with mostly white apparent. Allow the colors to dry completely. Antique the entire slab 718 Amber. Wipe back the 718 Amber using a soft paper towel and 763 Antique Media. Wipe the white koi down until it is primarily creamy white with Amber in the low areas only. To rouge yellow onto the "colorful" koi, wrap a soft paper towel around your index finger and apply a small amount of 710 Sunshine to the tip of the towel wrapped finger. Rub the color onto a pallet or tile to remove excess color. Begin rubbing the remaining koi only, with this towel wrapped finger applying a rouge of Yellow to the entire fish. On all three koi: Using a small Intense Translucent brush tipped LIGHTLY in 706 Tangerine apply the Tangerine to the face and random body areas. If you do not load the brush with too much color, you should not have to pat or wipe back this area to remove color. If too much color was applied, use a clean brush to carefully pat color back. Apply a little bit of 705 Ruby to the face using this same technique. Using this same technique apply 701 Black to random body areas and fin tips of the "colorful" koi. Shade the rock slab around the fish and other desired areas with a small amount of 718 Amber in a brush. Wipe back if necessary with a soft dry paper towel. Allow the entire slab to dry and spray with 761 Perfect Matte Spray. Allow the spray to dry and apply 902 Black to the whiskers and eyes of the fish. Either paint the 902 Black letters individually with a small detail brush or apply small amounts of 902 Black into the letters and wipe the color off leaving the black only in the letters. |
